Frederick Nathaniel Fletcher was born in China, Maine, on September 15, 1856, the son of Abisha and Miriam (Spratt) Fletcher. He married Isabel (Belle) French in 1883. In 1891 he and his wife, daughter Ethel and son Harold moved to Helena, Montana. Fred went into a real estate and mining partnership with John N. Glass. The company owned a mining claim in Pony.
